NAIRA OPENS LOWER AGAINST DOLLAR AS OFFICIAL RATE DIPS
The naira weakened against the dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Monday, starting the week on a bearish note.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the naira traded at ₦1,390.36 per dollar on Monday, down from ₦1,386.55 recorded last Friday. This reflects a decline of ₦3.81 compared to last week’s closing rate.
In the parallel market, the naira remained stable, exchanging between ₦1,460 and ₦1,470 per dollar on Monday, the same range as last Friday, according to several Bureau de Change operators in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.
Last week, the naira had recorded notable gains across both official and parallel foreign exchange markets.
Meanwhile, the CBN reported that Nigeria’s external reserves stood at $46.18 billion as of January 29, 2026.
