NAIRA GAINS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT DAY, ENDS WEEK STRONG AGAINST DOLLAR
The Nigerian Naira closed the week on a strong note, recording three consecutive days of appreciation against the U.S. Dollar at both the official and parallel (black) markets.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the Naira strengthened to ₦1,532.51 per dollar on Friday, compared to ₦1,534.52 on Thursday. This represents a daily gain of ₦2.01.
At the black market, the local currency also improved, rising from ₦1,565 per dollar on Thursday to ₦1,560 on Friday — a ₦5 gain.
On a week-to-week basis, the Naira gained ₦1.05 at the official window and ₦5 in the parallel market.
The positive trend comes alongside encouraging economic news, as the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported that Nigeria’s inflation rate slowed to 21.88% in July, down from 22.22% in June.
These developments are being seen by analysts as signs of cautious optimism, suggesting that recent economic policies and monetary interventions may be starting to ease pressure on the Naira.
