NAIRA EXTENDS GAINS AGAINST U.S. DOLLAR AT OFFICIAL MARKET
The Nigerian naira continued its appreciation against the U.S. dollar, sustaining its rally at the official foreign exchange market on Friday.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that the naira strengthened further to ₦1,366.23 per dollar, compared with ₦1,371.51 recorded previously. This represents a day-to-day gain of ₦5.28 for the local currency.
At the parallel market, however, the naira remained unchanged at ₦1,440 per dollar on Friday, the same rate observed on Thursday.
Since March 10, the naira has maintained an upward trend at the official market, gaining ₦35.17 against the dollar over the period.
In contrast, the currency has weakened slightly in the parallel market, where it has declined by ₦20 over the past four days, according to several Bureau de Change operators.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s external reserves were reported at $50.03 billion as of March 11, 2026.
