NADF TRAINS 250 TRACTOR DRIVERS, MECHANICS TO BOOST FARM PRODUCTIVITY

The National Agricultural Development Fund has trained 250 tractor drivers and mechanics as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural mechanisation and improve farm productivity in Nigeria.

The training was designed to equip participants with practical skills needed to operate, maintain, and repair agricultural machinery effectively.

NADF said developing a skilled workforce for mechanised farming was important as Nigeria seeks to increase agricultural output and reduce reliance on manual farming methods.

The organisation noted that poorly maintained tractors and a shortage of skilled operators have continued to limit the effective use of agricultural machinery in some farming communities.

The training is expected to help reduce equipment downtime, improve the lifespan of tractors, and ensure that farmers have access to more reliable mechanisation services.

Agricultural stakeholders said expanding mechanisation could improve productivity, reduce labour challenges, and make farming more attractive to younger Nigerians.

They also stressed the importance of providing farmers with access to affordable machinery, financing, spare parts, and technical support.

NADF said the programme forms part of broader efforts to build capacity within Nigeria’s agricultural value chain and support the adoption of modern farming practices.

Participants were encouraged to apply the skills acquired to improve the operation and maintenance of agricultural equipment in their respective communities.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen agricultural productivity, create jobs, and improve food security through mechanisation and skills development.
