“NA DEM SABI” – CHARLY BOY REACTS AS LAGOS RENAMES HIS BUS STOP AFTER OLAMIDE

Veteran entertainer Charly Boy, also known as Charles Oputa, has reacted to the Lagos State Government’s decision to rename the popular “Charly Boy Bus Stop” in Bariga after rapper Olamide “Baddo” Adedeji.

In a brief response to the development on Saturday, Charly Boy said:
“Na dem sabi.”

The renaming was announced during the commissioning of community projects in Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Friday. The outgoing LCDA Chairman, Hon. Kolade David Alabi, said the name changes were part of his administration’s final projects to honour notable Nigerians, especially in entertainment and sports.

Here are some of the new street and bus stop names:

Charly Boy Bus Stop ➡️ Olamide Baddo Bus Stop

Ilaje Road ➡️ King Sunny Ade Road

Bariga Road ➡️ Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way

Community Road, Akoka ➡️ Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road

Ajidagan Street ➡️ Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street

Ifeanyi Street ➡️ Abolore Akande (9ice) Street

Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak ➡️ Tony Tetuila Street

Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro ➡️ Bukayo Saka Street

The decision has sparked mixed reactions online. Some Lagosians accused the government of rewriting local history out of political bitterness. Others argued that “Charly Boy Bus Stop” was never an official name, claiming it was a self-naming move by the entertainer himself.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote:

“Nobody named it Charly Boy Bus Stop in the first place—he named it after himself.”

Another added:

“If you truly grew up in Bariga, you’d know the place is known as Second Pedro Bus Stop, not Charly Boy.”

Still, many celebrated Olamide, saying it’s a well-deserved honour for the rapper who grew up in Bariga and has put the community on the global map.

Whether seen as political or celebratory, the renaming reflects Lagos’ continued trend of using street names to recognise popular figures in Nigerian culture.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
