“MY RESPECT HAS GROWN,” INI EDO HAILS FUNKE AKINDELE AND TOYIN ABRAHAM
Nollywood actress Ini Edo is celebrating her colleagues Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham for their unprecedented achievements at the box office.
Toyin Abraham recently joined Funke Akindele in the billionaire club as her 2025 film, Oversabi Aunty, grossed ₦1 billion. Meanwhile, Funke revealed that her movie Behind The Scenes has earned over ₦2.4 billion in West Africa.
Taking to Instagram, Ini Edo congratulated the two industry titans for their milestone, praising their dedication, strategic approach, and marketing prowess. She admitted that competing in December was ambitious for her, but she and her team stayed committed and followed their instincts.
“I want to congratulate these industry titans, @funkejenifaakindele and @toyinabraham, for literally breaking all records and pushing beyond every envelope to achieve these groundbreaking successes for Nollywood,” Ini Edo wrote.
“Brah, my respect for these two has taken a hike. The level of commitment, strategising, marketing, and playing the game is on a whole different level. I knew it was ambitious of me to run this December race, but I’ve always trusted my gut and done what I feel is right. I sacrificed my holiday to pursue an ambition, and I’m particularly proud of my team @yfalaye @beccaashang @edojnr and some cast members, especially @euchariaanunobi @ikogbonna @unusualphyna @chief_femibranch, for staying committed to the project. We came, we pushed, we made our mark, and we learnt our lessons. Don’t be afraid to make a move. Win or lose, we move. 2026, I’ll try again.
Meanwhile, A Very Dirty Christmas is still showing in cinemas in the UK and Nigeria, so everyone can still go catch it.”
Fans and colleagues quickly responded to Ini Edo’s post. Chizzy Alichi wrote, “You’re joining the billionaire gang soon, Queen.” Ruth Eze added, “This is not easy to post, Brown Sugar. May God’s blessings rain on you.” Chinney Love commented, “You did amazingly, Queen.” IK Ogbonna and Nosa Rex also reacted with emojis, while Toyin Abraham replied, “Thanks a lot, sis.”
Media mogul Mo Abudu also celebrated Funke, Toyin, and Ini Edo, calling them “phenomenal queens” and praising their ability to create magic, break barriers, and demonstrate the unstoppable strength of women in film.
Meanwhile, comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun addressed his concerns about a lack of support from male colleagues during his promotion of Cinema. He clarified that his remarks were not directed at his female colleagues, who have consistently supported him, but were aimed at men who favor backing women over their own gender.
