“MY HEART CHANGED” – SON HEUNG-MIN JOINS LAFC IN RECORD-BREAKING MLS MOVE
Son Heung-min Signs with LAFC in Stunning MLS Transfer
South Korean football icon Son Heung-min has officially joined Los Angeles FC, completing the most expensive transfer in Major League Soccer history.
The 33-year-old forward leaves Tottenham Hotspur after 10 memorable years to sign with LAFC in a deal reportedly worth over £20 million, breaking the previous MLS record set earlier this year by Atlanta United.
Though Son admitted LA wasn’t his original destination of choice, things changed after one powerful phone call.
“It was not my first choice,” Son revealed during his unveiling. “But after I spoke with LAFC co-president John Thorrington, my heart and mind changed. He showed me a vision—and now that I’m here, I’m thrilled and ready for this new chapter.”
Son, who watched LAFC defeat Tigres UANL 2-1 in the Leagues Cup on Tuesday, signed a two-year contract with the option to extend for another two years. He reunites with former Tottenham teammate Hugo Lloris, who joined the California club earlier this year.
“Los Angeles has a rich history of champions,” Son said. “I’m here to help write the next chapter. I’ve come to lift trophies and give everything to this club, the city, and the amazing fans.”
Son leaves behind a legendary legacy at Tottenham. Since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, he scored 173 goals in 454 appearances, becoming a fan favorite and a global football ambassador for the club.
His greatest moment came in May, when he captained Spurs to a historic Europa League win over Manchester United—Tottenham’s first major title in 17 years.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy shared a heartfelt farewell:
“Sonny is one of the greatest players to ever wear our shirt. More than his talent, his kindness and humility touched hearts worldwide. He’s a true legend, and he’ll always be part of the Spurs family.”
