Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has confirmed that 28 people were killed in a gunmen attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a state broadcast, the governor described the incident as “tragic” and “senseless,” noting that the victims were innocent residents attacked while going about their daily activities. He assured that those responsible would be brought to justice.

Mutfwang said the government had taken immediate steps to restore order, including the imposition of a 48-hour curfew in Jos North to enable security agencies to conduct operations and prevent further violence.

He added that he personally visited the affected community and victims receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, stating that most of the injured were in stable condition. The state government, he said, would cover all medical expenses of the victims and support affected families.

The governor also disclosed that a suspect linked to threats against peace in the state had been arrested, with efforts ongoing to apprehend other perpetrators.

He commended residents for maintaining calm despite the attack and urged continued vigilance, encouraging the public to report suspicious activities to security agencies.

Mutfwang further directed security agencies to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycles within the Jos Greater Master Plan as part of efforts to strengthen security.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, he stressed that Plateau would not succumb to fear, pledging to deploy all necessary resources to protect lives, ensure justice, and maintain lasting peace in the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
