MUTFWANG CLARIFIES POWER SITUATION IN PLATEAU AFTER TINUBU’S VISIT
Governor Caleb Mutfwang has clarified that the lack of electricity reported at the Jos Airport is limited to the runway and does not reflect the power situation across Plateau State.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, the governor addressed concerns raised after President Bola Tinubu visited the state following recent killings. During his visit, the president had remarked on the absence of electricity at the airport.
Responding, Mutfwang explained that the president’s comment was specifically about the runway lighting and not the state as a whole. He emphasized that Plateau State is connected to the national grid and also benefits from additional power infrastructure, including a hydroelectric station.
He further noted that the issue with runway lighting is already known to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, which manages the airport, and discussions are ongoing to resolve it.
The governor added that the state government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding last year to upgrade the airport into an international cargo hub, expressing confidence that the ongoing improvements would address the current challenges once completed.
