MUSLIM CANDIDATES CAN WEAR HIJABS, JAMB CONFIRMS AMID VIDEO CLAIMS
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that candidates are not required to remove their hijabs during the registration process.
The clarification followed the circulation of a video alleging that a Muslim candidate at Afe Babalola University was asked to remove her hijab before being photographed. In the clip, a man claimed he accompanied his sister to a JAMB centre, where she was reportedly instructed to take off her hijab before her biometric capture.
He further alleged that after the process, she was asked to sign an undertaking related to wearing the hijab, questioning whether Muslim candidates were now being discriminated against for their religious attire.
Responding to the concerns on Saturday via its verified social media account, JAMB stated that it has never issued any directive—past or present—barring candidates from wearing the hijab during registration or any official process.
