MUSIC ICON STEVIE WONDER SUES HIS EX TO EVICT HER FROM HIS LA HOME SHE'S LIVED RENT-FREE FOR NEARLY 40 YEARS
Music legend Stevie Wonder has reportedly filed a lawsuit seeking to evict his former partner, Carmen Efferson, from a Los Angeles property where he says she has lived rent-free since July 1988.
According to court documents reported by TMZ, the arrangement was verbal, with no written lease or monthly rent payments.
Wonder’s legal team claims the dispute escalated after representatives repeatedly attempted to access the property for an insurance inspection during the summer.
The lawsuit alleges that Efferson refused entry, placing the property’s insurance coverage at risk.
His lawyers subsequently issued a notice in July ending the arrangement and asking her to leave by August 27. Wonder claims she remained after that deadline, prompting the court action.
The singer is seeking possession of the home, damages and legal costs.
Efferson and Wonder reportedly had a romantic relationship in the late 1980s. Her formal response to the lawsuit was not included in the available reports.
The claims remain subject to the court’s consideration. The filing does not mean an eviction order has already been granted.
