The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has called for the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and cybersecurity into Nigeria’s military reform strategy as part of efforts to modernise the armed forces in Nigeria.

Musa made the proposal while outlining a broader defence transformation agenda aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and improving response to evolving security threats, including terrorism, cyber warfare, and organised crime.

He said modern conflicts increasingly rely on technology-driven systems, stressing that Nigeria must adapt by investing in advanced defence tools and digital intelligence capabilities.

According to him, the adoption of emerging technologies will enhance surveillance, intelligence gathering, and battlefield coordination, while also reducing risks to personnel.

Security analysts say the move reflects a global shift in military strategy, where AI-powered systems and robotics are becoming central to defence planning and national security operations.

The defence chief also emphasised the need for capacity building, training, and partnerships with technology firms to ensure effective implementation of the reform agenda.

The proposal comes amid ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s military to better respond to internal and external security challenges.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
