Multiple Casualties As Suspected Herdsmen Launch Renewed Attacks In Benue's Agatu And Apa Lgas
Suspected herdsmen launched a series of violent attacks on Monday evening in Agatu and Apa Local Government Areas of Benue State, resulting in multiple fatalities.
According to reports, the Agatu incident claimed the life of Sunday Dutse, a native of Odejo and younger brother of a former local government chairman. He was reportedly ambushed and killed along the Odugbeho-Ogbaulu road.
Dutse had previously been displaced from his community during an earlier herdsmen attack and was residing in Ogwule-Kaduna, also within Agatu LGA.
Earlier on Monday, a separate attack occurred in Edikwu-G’Icho, a community in Apa LGA, where three young men were ambushed and killed. Two of the victims were from Edikwu-G’Icho, while the third was from Ugbokpo.
The attacks come in the wake of recent assurances by high-ranking military officials, including the Chief of Army Staff, who visited the region and pledged enhanced security for conflict-prone areas of the state.
