MULTICHOICE BECOMES FULL SUBSIDIARY OF CANAL+ FOLLOWING MAJOR ACQUISITION
MultiChoice Group, Africa’s leading pay-TV operator, has officially become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Canal+ following the completion of a landmark acquisition deal.
The move marks the end of MultiChoice’s journey as an independent listed company and integrates it fully into the global media powerhouse Canal+. The acquisition is expected to strengthen Canal+’s position across Africa’s entertainment and digital landscape, combining MultiChoice’s extensive subscriber base and sports broadcasting rights with Canal+’s international expertise and content library.
Industry analysts believe the merger will create synergies in content production, technology deployment, and market expansion. It could also accelerate investment in local content and digital platforms across the continent.
MultiChoice, known for its DStv and GOtv brands, has faced challenges including currency volatility, piracy, and competition from streaming services. The integration is anticipated to provide greater financial stability and strategic support.
Canal+ executives expressed confidence that the full ownership will unlock new growth opportunities while maintaining MultiChoice’s strong operational presence in key African markets.
The development is seen as a significant consolidation in Africa’s media industry, potentially reshaping the competitive dynamics for pay television and streaming services.
