MORRIS MONYE RESIGNS AS OBIDIENT MOVEMENT’S DIRECTOR OF MOBILISATION
Prominent political activist Morris Monye has announced his resignation as the Director of Mobilisation for the Obidient Movement, citing poor coordination and lack of support from the movement’s leadership.
Monye made the announcement on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, expressing disappointment over the movement’s performance, particularly in the recent Anambra election.
“Almost a year down the line, most of our short, medium, and long-term plans have not been met. I won’t be part of optics and no work. The poor showing at the Anambra election has also made my position untenable,” he stated.
The activist revealed that he had personally funded nationwide mobilisation efforts — including travel, voter awareness campaigns, local structure support, and logistics — without any financial backing from the movement’s leadership or its presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.
“No money was given to the Directorate of Mobilisation. There’s no bank account even for the directorate. In fact, Mr Peter Obi has never asked what we are doing in mobilisation — no communication, nothing,” Monye disclosed.
Monye’s resignation has sparked mixed reactions online, with some sympathising with his frustrations, while others believe internal restructuring is needed within the movement to address such concerns.
The Obidient Movement, which emerged during the 2023 general elections in support of Peter Obi and the Labour Party, has continued to face challenges of organisation and coordination across different states.
