MORE NIGERIANS DIE DAILY THAN IN WAR-TORN COUNTRIES – PETER OBI CRIES OUT
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, lamenting that more Nigerians die daily than people in countries at war.
In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the former Anambra State governor condemned the recent bandit attacks in Kogi and Kwara States, which claimed several lives.
Obi described the situation as a national emergency, stressing that the loss of lives has become disturbingly normal in the country.
“I am deeply disturbed by the tragic reports of yet another senseless attack in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, where over 27 innocent Nigerians were killed by armed bandits,” Obi wrote.
He added that the crisis has now spread to neighbouring Kwara State, where nine out of sixteen local government areas are reportedly under the control of bandits who demand food and drinks as ransom.
The Labour Party leader criticised the government’s handling of security, emphasising that protecting lives and property remains the most basic duty of leadership.
“The security situation is now a national emergency. It is deeply troubling that insecurity has become a normal occurrence in our nation, where our citizens die daily more than in countries at war. This is not normal,” he stated.
Obi called on authorities at all levels to act decisively to restore safety and peace, noting that no nation can thrive amid fear and bloodshed.
