MOHBAD’S FAMILY BARS WIDOW WUNMI FROM USING LATE SINGER’S SURNAME AMID PATERNITY DISPUTE
The family of the late singer Mohbad has formally prohibited his widow, Wunmi Adebanjo, from using the Aloba surname pending the outcome of a DNA test to determine the paternity of their son, Liam.
This decision comes amid ongoing legal disputes following Mohbad’s controversial death on September 12, 2023. The singer reportedly died after receiving an injection from an auxiliary nurse, prompting public outcry and the exhumation of his body for an autopsy. In May 2025, the investigation faced a setback when pathologists were unable to conclusively determine the cause of death.
In a new development, the head of the Aloba family, Omolayo Aloba, together with Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, issued an official statement restricting Wunmi from using the family name. They cited that no statutory or customary marriage had been legally completed between Wunmi and Mohbad, as the traditional Yoruba rites, including the payment of the bride price, were never finalized.
The family also named Oladayo Ogungbe as the sole legal representative for the DNA test and estate matters, while Wahab Shittu will continue handling all interactions with investigative authorities regarding Mohbad’s death.
The statement clarified that both Wunmi and her child, Liam, will be included in the administration of Mohbad’s estate only after DNA testing confirms Liam as the singer’s biological son.
This latest development adds another layer to the ongoing legal saga surrounding Mohbad’s death, paternity dispute, and estate management, keeping fans and the public closely watching the proceedings.
