MINISTERS SPEND BILLIONS TO SECURE APPOINTMENTS, APC SPOKESMAN ALLEGES
Alwan Hassan, a spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, has alleged that some ministers spend billions of naira to secure appointments and later seek to recover the money after taking office.
Hassan made the claim during a television interview while defending President Bola Tinubu’s handling of government expenditure.
He argued that tighter controls over the release of public funds were necessary to prevent misuse, praising what he described as the President’s direct involvement in spending decisions.
According to Hassan, the alleged financial cost of securing appointments can influence how some officials behave once they gain access to public resources.
When the interviewer questioned whether his remarks implicated ministers serving under the APC, Hassan said his criticism extended to previous administrations.
However, he did not identify any minister who allegedly paid for an appointment, name any recipient of such payments or present documentary evidence supporting the claim.
His comments therefore remain an unsubstantiated allegation, rather than an established finding of wrongdoing.
The remarks came during a broader discussion about government performance, budget implementation and preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
