MILITARY RECORDS SURGE IN TERRORIST SURRENDERS ACROSS NORTH-EAST

More than 150 terrorists, including commanders, fighters and affiliates, have surrendered to the Nigerian military in the North-East within one week, according to the military. The development was attributed to sustained pressure and intensified operations against terrorist groups operating in the region.

The latest figure represents a significant increase compared with the previous week, when more than 50 terrorists reportedly surrendered to the military. Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the increase reflected the impact of intelligence-led operations and coordinated military efforts aimed at weakening terrorist networks.

Goni explained that the ongoing operations had restricted the movement of terrorists, disrupted their logistics and supply chains, and reduced their ability to retain fighters within their various enclaves. He said the combination of military pressure and other measures was encouraging more members of the groups to abandon terrorism voluntarily.

The military also reported that some of those who surrendered handed over weapons and ammunition. According to the military, the recovery of such items further demonstrates the impact of sustained operations against terrorist groups and their capacity to disrupt the activities of the insurgents.

The latest wave of surrender is expected to boost ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the North-East. The military said it would continue its intelligence-driven operations and other measures aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities, disrupting their networks and encouraging more fighters and affiliates to abandon violence.
