MIKEL OBI URGES SUPER EAGLES TO FIGHT HARD FOR 2026 WORLD CUP SPOT
Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has expressed strong belief that Nigeria can still qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite sitting third in Group C with 11 points from eight matches.
Speaking on the ObiOne Podcast, Mikel emphasized that the players must take full responsibility and give their all in the final qualifying games. He described missing the World Cup as “an absolute crime,” stressing that Nigeria’s rich football culture demands a place on the global stage.
The Super Eagles are set to face Lesotho at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday, before wrapping up their qualifying campaign with a home clash against Benin Republic next Tuesday.
Mikel encouraged the team to approach both matches with determination and pride, reminding them that their World Cup fate remains in their own hands. “They have to win these two games—no excuses,” he said.
