Microfinance banks (MFBs) are positioning for growth as ongoing reforms by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) begin to reshape the financial services sector and create new opportunities for operators.

Industry stakeholders said the reforms are expected to strengthen the stability, governance, and operational capacity of microfinance institutions while improving their ability to provide financial services to underserved individuals and small businesses.

MFB operators noted that improved regulatory frameworks, digital transformation, and stronger risk management practices will be critical to expanding their reach and supporting more customers, especially micro and small enterprises.

Experts said microfinance banks play an important role in promoting financial inclusion by providing access to credit and other financial services for communities often overlooked by traditional banks.

They added that the success of the reforms will depend on how effectively MFBs adapt to new requirements, invest in technology, and develop innovative products that meet customer needs.

Stakeholders believe a stronger microfinance sector will support entrepreneurship, boost MSME growth, and contribute to Nigeria’s broader financial inclusion goa
