A rare basketball collectible card featuring Michael Jordan and the late Kobe Bryant has shattered records, selling for an astonishing $12.93 million at auction.

The card, a 2007-08 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Dual Logoman Autographs, is a one-of-a-kind (1-of-1) piece signed by both NBA legends. It was sold on Saturday, August 23, through Heritage Auctions, making it the most expensive sports card ever sold, surpassing the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card that went for $12.6 million in 2022.

While the buyer’s identity remains undisclosed, the sale marks a historic moment in the sports memorabilia market.

The Jordan-Bryant card is now officially the second-most valuable sports collectible of all time, behind only Babe Ruth’s 1932 “called shot” World Series jersey, which sold for $24.12 million in 2023.

Chris Ivy, Heritage’s Director of Sports Auctions, noted that the card’s rarity and direct player signatures were the driving factors behind its sky-high value. Even though it received a PSA grade of 6, its uniqueness made the grade less relevant.

“Grades matter for standard cards, but for a one-of-one like this, rarity and provenance outweigh everything else,” Ivy explained.

The card had been in a private collection for over a decade, with the owner reportedly turning down multiple multi-million-dollar offers before choosing a public auction. Originally estimated at $6 million, the final hammer price more than doubled expectations.

The sale comes at a time when Kobe Bryant memorabilia has been seeing a surge in demand. Recently, collector Matt Allen (aka Shyne) spent $4 million on two rare Kobe Bryant Logoman cards, one fetching $1.7 million and the other $2.3 million.

For fans and collectors, the record-breaking sale is more than just about money — it’s a tribute to two of basketball’s greatest icons, whose legacies continue to inspire generations on and off the court.
