MEXICO CAPTURES US-WANTED NEPHEW OF DRUG LORD ‘EL CHAPO’
Mexican security forces have arrested a nephew of notorious drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman in the northern border state of Sonora, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
Mexico’s Secretary of Security, Omar Garcia Harfuch, announced the arrest on X, stating that the suspect is a relative of the former Sinaloa cartel leader, who is currently serving a life sentence in a United States prison.
He added that the suspect is also wanted by US authorities, though full details of the charges were not immediately disclosed.
The individual was identified only as Isai “N”, but Mexican media reported his full name as Isai Martinez Zepeda.
Authorities have not confirmed additional details surrounding the suspect’s background or recent activities, although reports suggest he may have previously faced weapons-related charges.
Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the former leader of the powerful Sinaloa cartel, was extradited to the United States in 2017 after escaping from Mexican prisons on two separate occasions. He is currently serving a life sentence in a maximum-security prison in Colorado for drug trafficking and money laundering.
Two of his sons, Ovidio Guzman and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, are also serving sentences in the United States on related narcotics charges.
The latest arrest is part of ongoing security operations by Mexican authorities targeting cartel networks linked to the Guzman family and the Sinaloa cartel’s leadership structure.
