Messi Eyes New Glory As Inter Miami Gears Up For Fifa Club World Cup
Lionel Messi has already conquered the biggest stages in football—lifting the UEFA Champions League, Copa América, and the FIFA World Cup™. But the Argentine legend isn’t done chasing trophies just yet.
Now, he has set his sights on a new challenge: the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup™, which kicks off on June 14 with Inter Miami CF facing Egypt’s Al Ahly FC in the tournament opener at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Speaking to FIFA, Messi expressed his excitement:
“It’s an interesting competition. Having the chance to be part of it is exciting. The expectations I have are different to the ones I had when I played for other teams, but I’m eager and I look forward to competing against the best and doing well.”
Messi’s arrival at Inter Miami in 2023 transformed the club’s fortunes. He guided the team to a league-record 74 points, securing the MLS Supporters’ Shield and their qualification for this global tournament.
With top clubs from Europe, South America, and beyond coming to the U.S., Messi believes the event will captivate American audiences:
“I think there are huge teams coming from all over the world, and that moves a lot of people everywhere,” he said. “We’re talking about great teams, with very important players that people love to watch.”
The final will be played on July 13 at MetLife Stadium near New York City, marking the end of a month-long celebration of elite club football on American soil.
For Messi, the Club World Cup is more than just another trophy—it’s a unique experience:
“It’s a great opportunity to go up against them, and a really nice experience both for the players on the pitch and for the fans in the stands.”
Even with a career full of achievements, Messi’s hunger for new challenges continues to drive him. And this summer, he’s ready to lead Inter Miami onto the global stage.
