MERCY JOHNSON HELPED ME THROUGH THREATS FROM MY EX-HUSBAND — ETINOSA
Nigerian actress Etinosa Idemudia has opened up about how fellow actress Mercy Johnson helped her when her ex-husband allegedly threatened to kill her.
Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Etinosa explained that the threats began after she publicly accused her first husband of domestic abuse during an interview.
Recounting the incident, she said Mercy Johnson played a crucial role in escalating the matter to the Chief of Naval Staff. Etinosa said:
"So, how that happened was, I went for an interview for a film, ‘Stormy Heart’. At that time, I was very green; I didn’t know how to navigate interview questions or divert sensitive topics. It was all about honesty back then. They asked about love or relationships, and I mentioned that one relationship nearly killed me—my ex-husband—without thinking much of it.
The media house then focused less on the film and more on my personal life, crafting stories about my marriage. I was shocked because no one knew about these things until then. My ex-husband called me, claiming I was tarnishing his career, and threatened me, insisting I retract my statements. I asked him if he wanted me to put myself under a coffin for him.
When the threats escalated, I had to speak out on Instagram. Several people reached out, but I distinctly remember Mercy Johnson. She has a strong military background and told me she would forward the case to the Chief of Naval Staff. To cut the story short, someone from Abuja later contacted me to confirm that the matter was being handled and that I would no longer be bothered."
Etinosa was first married to military officer Babatunde Solomon, with the marriage ending between 2017 and 2018. She later married Benin-based lawyer Ighorosa, a union that ended in 2021 after they welcomed their first child.
