MELANIA TRUMP SAYS SECURED CEASEFIRE IN UKRAINIAN CITY OF OLESHKY
The White House says US First Lady Melania Trump has helped broker a temporary ceasefire in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Oleshky to allow humanitarian assistance and civilian evacuations.
Announced on Friday, the agreement is scheduled to begin on October 29.
According to the White House, Russia and Ukraine agreed to pause military action in the city so essential supplies can reach residents and preparations can be made for civilians to leave through a designated safe route.
It said Melania initiated the discussions and worked through a representative with Russian and Ukrainian leaders to establish the terms.
Neither government had immediately commented on the announcement.
Oleshky has suffered extensive damage during the war, leaving residents facing shortages of food, medicine and basic services. Dangerous routes out of the city have also complicated efforts to evacuate civilians.
The announced ceasefire applies specifically to Oleshky and is intended to support humanitarian operations. Its implementation will determine whether aid workers can reach those in need and residents can leave safely.
