MEET NIGERIAN TWINS WHO SECURED NNPC JOBS AGAINST ALL ODDS

Identical Nigerian twins, Hussaini and Hassan Malami, have secured employment with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) as members of the NNPC Tigers Class of 2026, despite one of them initially hesitating to apply because of a misconception about the recruitment process.

According to a profile by NNPC Senior Communications Advisor, Adaobi Oniwinde, Hussaini had always wanted to work with NNPC and applied when recruitment opened, encouraging his twin brother Hassan to do the same.

Hassan was initially reluctant because he believed NNPC recruited only one person from the same family and did not want his application to affect his brother’s chances.

He was also more interested in joining the Nigerian Air Force and already had a job in the banking sector.

However, after persistent encouragement from Hussaini and with the application deadline approaching, Hassan eventually applied.

The brothers later took the computer-based recruitment test on the same day but in different locations, with Hussaini sitting for his test in Sokoto and Hassan taking his in Kaduna.

After completing interviews and other stages of the recruitment process, both brothers received their employment letters on the same day.

Hussaini said he discovered his employment offer after midnight and was so excited that he wanted to wake up the entire family to share the news.

Hassan, meanwhile, discovered his successful application through the family WhatsApp group after waking up.

The twins were eventually assigned to different NNPC subsidiaries, with Hussaini joining NNPC Exploration & Production Limited and Hassan joining NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company.

For Hassan, the new role has introduced him to parts of Nigeria’s gas industry that he previously knew little about. He said the experience has shown him how gas is transported and used to power plants and manufacturing companies.

Although he initially wanted a military career, Hassan now views his work in the energy sector as another form of national service. He still hopes to explore military service before reaching the age limit in 2030.

Hussaini, on his part, said working at NNPC has strengthened his desire to contribute to Nigeria’s energy sector. He also hopes to become a guest lecturer in the future and share practical industry experience with university students.

The brothers identified different workplace values that reflect their approach to their new careers. Hussaini chose Enterprise First, while Hassan selected Execution Excellence, reflecting his background as a civil engineer.

They encouraged young Nigerians interested in working at NNPC to ignore rumours about the recruitment process and take advantage of legitimate opportunities when they arise.

Their message was simple: apply, take the test and earn your place.
