The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has approved the recruitment of 6,580 qualified candidates into various academic, technical, and administrative roles across public primary and junior secondary schools in the state, with a strong focus on the state’s 267 Smart Green Schools.

Although most of the schools are still under construction, the government approved the measure in a job vacancy advertisement issued by the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, Hyginus Banko.

A breakdown of the positions shows that the board seeks 4,698 core subject teachers across fields such as Mathematics, English Language, Basic Science, Basic Technology, ICT, French, Igbo Language, and History.

Other positions advertised include 520 Digital Librarians, 380 Experiential Learning Innovators, 267 Guidance and Counsellors, 267 ICT Staff, 267 Laboratory Attendants, 136 Account Officers, and 45 Technicians.

ENSUBEB stated that teaching applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or HND with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, or a Nigeria Certificate in Education in specified subject areas.

Registration or proof of registration or ongoing registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria is mandatory for teaching applicants.

Requirements for non-teaching roles vary, ranging from degrees in specialised fields like Library and Information Science, STEM, and Psychology, to Ordinary National Diploma, Trade Test Certificates, or SSCE/WASSCE for positions such as Laboratory Attendants, Technicians, and ICT staff.

The board emphasized that candidates applying with a Degree or HND must present a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, while practical proficiency in Information and Communication Technology tools is compulsory across all cadres.

“Interested and qualified candidates are to submit a formal application letter alongside a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of credentials, birth certificate or sworn affidavit of age, and valid contact information,” the notice added.

The board noted that the application process is completely free of charge and stated that the deadline for submissions is Friday, August 14, 2026.
