MASTERCARD PARTNERS GOVTS TO PROTECT AFRICA’S CYBERSPACE

Global payments technology company Mastercard has signed partnerships with several African governments to strengthen cybersecurity frameworks and protect the continent’s growing digital economy.

The collaborations, announced during a regional cybersecurity summit, focus on capacity building, threat intelligence sharing, and the development of robust regulatory frameworks to safeguard online transactions and critical infrastructure. Mastercard’s Senior Vice President for Africa, Mrs. Aisha Abubakar, described the partnerships as essential for building trust in digital payments. “A secure cyberspace is the foundation of a thriving digital economy,” she said.

Participating governments welcomed the initiative, noting the rising incidents of cybercrime and the need for collective action. The partnerships will include training programmes for law enforcement and financial institutions, as well as public awareness campaigns.

The move aligns with Mastercard’s broader commitment to digital safety and financial inclusion across Africa. Experts believe the collaboration will help reduce cyber risks and encourage greater adoption of digital services.

Mastercard plans to expand the programme to more countries in the coming months.
