MARY NJOKU RAISES CONCERN OVER SUSPECTED FAKE DRUGS IN NIGERIA
Nollywood actress and producer Mary Remmy Njoku has voiced serious concerns about the quality of medications available in Nigeria, following a troubling experience with food poisoning on a film set.
Taking to Instagram, Njoku recounted how she bought Imodium—a common anti-diarrheal drug—from a well-known pharmacy chain in Nigeria. Despite using it for three days, her symptoms did not improve.
However, upon taking the same medication purchased overseas by her husband, she experienced relief within minutes.
The actress expressed alarm over the stark contrast in effectiveness, raising the possibility that counterfeit or substandard medications may be circulating in the country.
She urged the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to launch an urgent investigation into the issue.
“This isn’t the first time I’ve noticed a difference,” Njoku stated. “What exactly are we being sold in Nigeria? This is a public health risk, and NAFDAC must take it seriously. This is very dangerous.”
The mother of three emphasized the potential threat such drugs pose to public health, calling for immediate regulatory action.
