United States Senator Marco Rubio has pledged continued support for counterterrorism cooperation with Nigeria, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to security collaboration in the region.

Rubio said the partnership remains critical in addressing terrorism, insurgency, and other transnational security threats affecting Nigeria and the wider West African region.

The discussions are part of ongoing diplomatic engagements between the United States and Nigeria aimed at strengthening intelligence sharing, military cooperation, and capacity building in Nigeria.

Security analysts note that Nigeria continues to face multiple security challenges, including insurgency in the northeast, banditry in the northwest, and rising criminal networks across several states.

Rubio emphasised that sustained collaboration with Nigerian security forces is necessary to disrupt terrorist operations and improve regional stability.

The pledge comes as both countries continue to deepen strategic ties in defence and counterterrorism efforts across Africa.

Officials say further details of expanded cooperation frameworks are expected to be outlined in upcoming bilateral security meetings.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
