MAPOLY ALUMNI, MEDIA COOPERATIVE MOURN EAGLE ONLINE PUBLISHER OLADIPO

The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Alumni Association and the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society have mourned the death of veteran journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, describing his passing as a major loss to Nigeria’s media industry.

Oladipo, who died at the age of 56, was a member of MAPOLY’s 1992 Mass Communication graduating class and was regarded by the alumni association as a distinguished ambassador of the institution.

The association’s National President, Ayinde Soaga, said Oladipo’s death was particularly painful given his experience, professional relevance and contributions to journalism.

Oladipo built a career spanning several major Nigerian media organisations, including Newswatch, The PUNCH, Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass and The Sun, before establishing The Eagle Online.

Soaga said the late journalist earned respect across the industry through his professionalism, leadership and strong relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders.

He also described Oladipo as one of the journalists who successfully carried the values and discipline of traditional journalism into the digital media era.

The Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society, where Oladipo served as pioneer president, also described his death as a devastating loss.

The cooperative said Oladipo played an important role in promoting collaboration, professional development and investment among Nigerian media professionals.

According to the cooperative, Oladipo founded The Eagle Online and Premium Eagle Media Limited and served as President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers between 2017 and 2021 before becoming the guild’s Emeritus President.

The cooperative said Oladipo died suddenly at his office in Lagos on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after reportedly taking ill. No official cause of death has been announced.

Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues, media organisations and public figures following his death, with many highlighting his contribution to journalism and the development of Nigeria’s digital media space.
