Tragedy struck late Friday night when a three-storey building under construction collapsed at No. 333 Borno Way, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos. Several construction workers are feared trapped beneath the rubble.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a preliminary update released by its Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu. He said a coordinated search-and-rescue operation was immediately launched at the site.

Emergency responders at the scene include officials from LASEMA’s Onipanu Rescue Unit, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), the Nigeria Police (Area C Command), and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

So far, three adult males have been rescued alive. They were stabilised at the scene by LASAMBUS medical personnel before being rushed to Harvey Road General Hospital, Yaba for further treatment.

Although the cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, investigations are ongoing to establish whether it was linked to structural defects, regulatory breaches, or other factors.

This incident comes just two months after another three-storey building collapsed on Lagos Island on July 3, leaving several people trapped.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm as rescue operations continue through the night.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
