MANCHESTER CITY PREPARE FRESH £120M MOVE FOR CHELSEA STAR ENZO FERNáNDEZ
Manchester City are reportedly preparing a fresh attempt to sign Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández, with the Premier League champions ready to test Chelsea’s resolve with a potential £120 million offer before the summer transfer window closes.
The Argentine midfielder has emerged as one of City’s major targets as manager Enzo Maresca looks to strengthen his midfield following the departure of Rodri to Barcelona. City have already invested heavily in the position, signing Elliott Anderson and agreeing a major deal for teenage midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, but Fernández remains an attractive option because of his experience at the highest level.
Chelsea had previously set a £120 million valuation for Fernández and reportedly imposed a deadline for interested clubs to make a formal offer. City failed to meet that initial deadline, but reports indicate that the Manchester club has not abandoned its interest and could return with another approach as the transfer window approaches its September 1 closing date.
Fernández, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in a British-record transfer worth more than £100 million, remains an important member of the squad. Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso recently insisted that the club are happy with the midfielder, although he stopped short of providing a definitive guarantee over his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
A potential move would represent a major statement from Manchester City and could significantly reshape the Premier League title race. However, Chelsea would need to decide whether accepting a huge fee for one of their key midfielders so late in the transfer window would be worth the difficulty of finding an adequate replacement.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Fernández’s future is becoming one of the biggest stories of the final days of the window. City are reportedly determined to explore the possibility, while Chelsea face a crucial decision over whether to retain their Argentine star or consider a blockbuster sale.
