MAN ARRESTED IN KADUNA FOR IMPERSONATING NORTHERN GOVERNORS, SCAMMING NIGERIANS
Kaduna Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Impersonating Northern Governors to Scam Nigerians
The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a young man accused of impersonating several Northern governors in a sophisticated scam operation targeting unsuspecting Nigerians.
According to the police spokesperson, ASP Mansur Hassan, the suspect—whose name is being withheld—was apprehended after a series of complaints and intelligence tracking. The man allegedly posed as multiple state governors from the North, using fake identities to deceive victims and gain their trust for fraudulent purposes.
Speaking to BBC Hausa, ASP Hassan revealed that the suspect is highly skilled in voice impersonation.
“He is an expert at mimicking voices,” Hassan said. “Once he hears someone speak, he can easily imitate their voice. That’s how he managed to convince people he was speaking as a governor.”
During the arrest, the police discovered that the suspect had contact details of several high-profile Nigerians saved on his phone—raising concerns that his scams may have reached influential circles.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the governors the suspect impersonated or the full extent of his fraudulent activities. Investigations are still ongoing to determine the number of victims and the total amount of money involved.
The police have assured the public that further details will be made available once investigations are concluded and charges are filed.
This incident serves as a warning to the public to be cautious of unsolicited calls or requests from individuals claiming to be government officials and to always verify identities before taking action.
