MAN ARRESTED FOR SPREADING FALSE MILITARY HELICOPTER CLAIM IN ANAMBRA

Anambra State Police Command has arrested a man responsible for creating and circulating a viral video falsely claiming that a military helicopter dropped suspicious items or persons in a bush between Nimo and Adazi-Nnukwu communities in Anaocha Local Government Area.

The suspect, whose identity is yet to be fully disclosed, was apprehended after investigations exposed the claim as fabricated. Police operatives deployed to the scene found no evidence of any such incident, describing the video as a deliberate attempt to cause panic and undermine public confidence in the state’s security architecture.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command debunked the rumour, urging residents to disregard the false security alert and verify information before sharing. The video had sparked widespread anxiety across the state, with many residents expressing fears over possible insecurity.

Authorities warned that anyone found circulating such misinformation will face the full wrath of the law. The arrest is part of ongoing efforts to combat fake news capable of destabilising public peace in Anambra State.

The development comes amid heightened security measures in the South-East, as security agencies intensify crackdowns on both real threats and disinformation campaigns. Residents have been advised to remain calm and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
