MAN ALLEGEDLY KILLED OVER GIRLFRIEND IN KWARA
Tragedy struck in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Tuesday, following the alleged murder of a 25-year-old man, identified as Hammed Usman Tunde, who was stabbed to death by his friend during a dispute reportedly over a girlfriend.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at Oja Gboro Quarters, when the two friends — described as close companions — engaged in a heated argument while patronising a Hausa sugarcane vendor.
The quarrel quickly escalated, leading the 21-year-old suspect, identified only as Gafar, to stab Tunde in the chest with a knife.
The victim, a resident of Ile-Soro 2, Oja Gboro, Isale Koko area of Ilorin, was rushed to a nearby private hospital before being referred to the General Hospital, Ilorin, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack. His whereabouts — along with those of his family members — remain unknown as of press time.
A female relative of the deceased described the incident as heartbreaking, calling on the Kwara State Government and security agencies to ensure that justice is served.
“He was a peaceful person who did not deserve to die in such a cruel way,” she lamented.
The late Hammed Usman Tunde was buried on Wednesday according to Islamic rites at his family home in Oja Gboro, Isale Koko, Ilorin.
Police authorities in the state are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
