The Executive Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Area, Hon. Joseph Keffi, has welcomed the deployment of over 500 troops and security personnel to key areas in Makurdi and other parts of Benue State, describing it as a major boost in the fight against insecurity.

In a statement released by his media aide, Teran Nathaniel, Hon. Keffi said the troops have been strategically positioned in places like Mbalagh and Agan, which have been among the hardest hit by attacks from armed herders. These attacks have forced many residents from their homes, crippled farming, and disrupted daily life.

Hon. Keffi expressed his heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for their prompt intervention to secure the lives and livelihoods of the people.

“The deployment of over 500 troops is a critical step toward restoring peace and protecting our people. These brave security personnel will help ensure that farming activities resume safely in Mbalagh, Agan, and other affected communities,” the council chairman said.

As part of his support for the security operations, Hon. Keffi has provided essential supplies, including mattresses, mosquito nets, and food items, to ensure the troops are comfortable and well-equipped during their mission.

“These troops are here for our people, and it is our duty to make them feel supported. Providing them with basic necessities is the least we can do to show our appreciation for their sacrifice and service,” he added.

He also called on residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and to cooperate fully with the security agencies, stressing that community support is vital to defeating criminal elements and achieving lasting peace.

“Makurdi Local Government remains fully committed to working with all stakeholders to rebuild our communities, revive agriculture, and ensure security and development across the region,” Hon. Keffi assured.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
