Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Seyi Makinde, has appointed lawyer and communication strategist Anthony Ehilebo as his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The appointment was announced on Thursday by Makinde’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, in Ibadan. It takes immediate effect, while additional appointments to the governor’s campaign team are expected to be announced as preparations for the election intensify.

Makinde said Ehilebo’s experience in law and communication strategy would be valuable to the campaign, particularly in strengthening the APM’s messaging and communicating its political agenda to Nigerians.

Ehilebo is expected to play a central role in developing the campaign’s media strategy and expanding its presence across digital platforms as political activities ahead of the 2027 election gather momentum.

The appointment comes as political parties and presidential candidates begin to strengthen their campaign structures ahead of the general election, with social media and digital communication expected to play an increasingly important role in reaching voters.

Makinde also urged Nigerians to support the APM, describing the 2027 election as an opportunity to change the direction of the country. He criticised the administration of the ruling All Progressives Congress and called for what he described as a new direction for Nigeria.

The governor expressed confidence that unity and determination would help his political movement achieve its objectives in the forthcoming election.

Makinde formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election in May 2026, announcing his candidacy under an alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party and the APM.

Ehilebo’s appointment therefore represents an early step in building the communication machinery for Makinde’s presidential campaign, with further appointments expected as the APM prepares for the 2027 contest.
