MAKINDE HITS TINUBU OVER HARDSHIP, SAYS RISING FOREIGN RESERVES PROVE LITTLE

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has challenged the Federal Government’s account of economic recovery, saying improvements in foreign reserves must translate into better living conditions for Nigerians.

Makinde, the Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate, argued that financial indicators alone could not demonstrate progress while families struggled to afford basic necessities.

He spoke through a video message on Saturday at the launch of the Makinde and Daura for Better Nigeria Resetter Movement in Lagos.

The governor compared the government’s emphasis on rising reserves to a household celebrating its savings while family members remained hungry.

“I liken it to a household where the head is telling the people that we have a lot of money in our savings accounts, but everyone in that household is hungry,” he said.

Makinde maintained that economic success should be judged by people’s purchasing power, financial independence and access to opportunities.

He accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of presenting an incomplete picture of recovery by highlighting financial gains without showing corresponding improvements in everyday life.

Beyond the economy, Makinde called for broad changes to Nigeria’s security architecture, education system and political environment.

The Lagos event brought together APM leaders, supporters, stakeholders and candidates preparing for the 2027 general elections.
