LP FAULTS OSUN REC TRANSFER, URGES TINUBU TO REVERSE DECISION

The Labour Party (Labour Party Nigeria) has criticised the transfer of the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke, describing it as unconstitutional and calling for an immediate reversal.

The party’s South-West Vice Chairman, Abayomi Arabambi, made this known during a press conference in Abuja, urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had redeployed Agboke from Osun State to Ondo State ahead of the August 2026 governorship election, describing the move as routine.

However, Arabambi argued that the appointment and removal of Resident Electoral Commissioners are constitutional matters requiring presidential approval and Senate confirmation, not unilateral decisions.

He alleged that the transfer followed a petition from a political figure and warned that such actions could undermine electoral integrity and set a dangerous precedent.

The Labour Party called on the President to reinstate Agboke and ensure due process is followed, stressing that electoral credibility depends on independence and fairness in the management of elections.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
