Nollywood actress and ROK Studios CEO, Mary Njoku, has called on people to take charge of their own happiness rather than relying on others.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the actress, who is married to Jason Njoku, emphasized the importance of self-love, personal well-being, and prioritizing oneself. She also addressed mothers, encouraging them to love their children while remembering to care for themselves, take breaks, and rest without guilt.

Mary Njoku wrote:

“Stop outsourcing your happiness! Love yourself. Never put the responsibility for your happiness on someone else; you will always come last if you put them first.
If you’re a mother, love your children, but love yourself too. It’s okay to take a break. It’s okay to rest. It’s okay to be a little selfish sometimes.
Life is short. You don’t know when it will end. One day, you could be gone. And you will be remembered for…, if you are remembered at all.
The people you think can’t live without you? They will go on. Some may even live better without you. Love yourself. Life is too short not to.”

Recently, Mary also challenged the narrative around women’s independence. She clarified that independence is not a preference, but a response to circumstances, noting that no one truly wants to live alone, but independence arises when reliable support is lacking.

On the professional front, Njoku expressed concern over the disconnect between well-crafted CVs and the actual skills of job applicants. She highlighted that while many CVs meet formal requirements, interviews often reveal mismatches, making CVs more of a marketing tool than an accurate reflection of capabilities.

Mary has also consistently emphasized lifelong learning, encouraging people not to see success as a ceiling but as a stepping stone. She reminded the public that the world is vast and there is always more to see, understand, and achieve.

Additionally, the actress posed thought-provoking questions about life, purpose, and the value of joining Nollywood guilds, revealing that she struggles to provide a clear answer when asked about the practical benefits of such associations.

Mary Njoku’s reflections underscore the importance of self-awareness, personal growth, and taking control of one’s own happiness, both in life and in career pursuits.
