“LET THE SOUTH FINISH” — SARAKI WITHDRAWS FROM 2027 PRESIDENTIAL RACE
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has ruled out a bid for the 2027 presidential election, saying his decision is guided by fairness and the need to respect the South’s current turn in power.
Saraki explained that his position aligns with the principle of political balance between the North and South. He said the South should be allowed to complete its tenure, which began in 2023 and runs through 2027.
He added that the arrangement would help ensure clarity and reduce disputes over zoning in future elections, especially by 2031.
According to him, the 2031 election would naturally favour a candidate from the North, making the power rotation more straightforward and less contentious.
Saraki further noted that running in 2027 would not be well received in the South, as it could be seen as undermining the existing political understanding. He maintained that the current cycle should be allowed to run its full course before any shift in power direction is considered.
