“LEAVE YOUR MARRIAGE IF THERE’S VIOLENCE” – YVONNE JEGEDE TELLS REGINA DANIELS
Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has publicly called on her colleague, Regina Daniels, to walk away from her marriage if the allegations of domestic violence against her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, are true.
In a straightforward post on Instagram, Jegede emphasised that violence—regardless of whether it is perpetrated by a man or a woman—is a deal-breaker. She wrote:
“Regina you are still very young, if there’s violence in your marriage, please carry your bag. There is never sugarcoating for me as long as violence is involved (both for man and woman).”
She urged Daniels to prioritise her well-being and that of her children in whatever decision she makes about her marital situation.
Jegede also addressed the backlash and mockery that often greet allegations of domestic abuse—especially when the victim is wealthy or high-profile. She challenged critics who dismissed Daniels’ claims because of her celebrity marriage, asking:
“If she was married to a poor man and the man is beating her, would that make a difference? No… Would that make it any better?”
She went on to say:
“You pick your bag and you go. You know, it is better for you to live to tell the story than for you to stay and die.”
Her message, therefore, is clear: breaking the silence around domestic violence is vital, and no one should feel trapped by a marriage that endangers their mental or physical health.
As this story unfolds, it has sparked wider conversations about how society handles affluent victims of abuse, how celebrity status intersects with vulnerability, and the importance of mental health and safety above outward appearances.
