As the gospel music landscape continues to evolve, a fresh generation of artists is reshaping the genre’s sound, style, and expression. Blending traditional spirituality with afrobeats, pop, and urban rhythms, these trailblazers are pushing boundaries and inspiring a new form of worship. FAITH AJAYI spotlights some of the standout talents transforming the gospel music scene.

AnEndlessOcean

Ayobami Alli-Hakeem, better known as AnEndlessOcean, is a multi-talented gospel singer and producer whose emotionally rich, genre-bending sound has captivated many. Raised in a home influenced by both Islam and Christianity, he eventually embraced the Christian faith. While his musical roots lie in church, he started out playing bass guitar rather than singing.

An engineering graduate from the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, AEO gained industry recognition in 2024 with Headies nominations for Best Inspirational Single and Best Vocal Performance.

After picking up songwriting in 2011 and releasing his first track professionally in 2016, his musical evolution has followed a unique geometric theme, with albums like Apeirogon (2021), Decagon (2023), Hexagon and Octagon (2024), and the forthcoming Nonagon.

His music seamlessly merges spiritual reflection with relatable themes, often centered around divine love.

Limoblaze

Samuel Onwubiko, professionally known as Limoblaze, is a leading voice in Afro-gospel, boasting over 30 million streams. He began his music career in his local church in Makurdi, Benue State, and studied Biochemistry at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

Limoblaze rose to international acclaim with his 2022 breakout hit Jireh featuring Grammy-winner Lecrae and UK singer Happi. The track landed on three Billboard charts and earned him both a MOBO Award and Headies nomination. His recent album, Young and Chosen, continues his signature blend of afrobeats, R&B, soft-funk, and hip-hop.

With collaborations featuring Travis Greene, Ada Ehi, Johnny Drille, Banky W, and others, Limoblaze is determined to make Christian music more accessible. “Afrobeats can be about Jesus too,” he once stated, noting the demand for uplifting tracks beyond traditional worship settings.

He made history in 2022 as the first non-American artist signed to Reach Records. In 2023, he won Best Afrobeat at the Antigua Barbuda Global Music & Media Awards, and his performance at The Experience in Lagos cemented his role as a pioneer of Afro-gospel.

Greatman Takit

A dynamic gospel rapper and vocalist, Greatman Takit hails from Lagos with roots in Kwara State. Though raised in a Christian home—his father a pastor—Takit’s early musical influences ranged from church choir to hip-hop icons like Tupac.

He honed his rap skills in secondary school and later, as a university student at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, where he was part of a music group. He made his official debut in 2011 with Ain’t Nobody, followed by Ijo (2013) and Farewemi (2014). His 2016 EP Wildfire firmly established him in the gospel space.

In 2023, he teamed up with Moses Bliss and Prinx Emmanuel for the hit Daddy Wey Dey Pamper, and appeared on Glory by Israel Houghton and Tim Godfrey in 2025.

Takit was named Best Gospel Rap Artist at the 2024 Kingdom Achievers Awards. He believes gospel music should not only inspire but also entertain and educate.

Mercy Chinwo

With her distinctive vocals and heartfelt lyrics, Mercy Chinwo remains one of Nigeria’s most beloved gospel artists. She began singing at age eight in her church choir and later became music director of the adult choir. She studied Linguistics and Communication Studies at the University of Port Harcourt and shot to national fame after winning Nigerian Idol Season 2.

Chinwo’s professional music career kicked off with Testimony (2015) and Igwe (2016). She joined EeZee Conceptz in 2017 and rose to stardom with her 2018 hit Excess Love.

Despite parting ways with EeZee Conceptz in 2022 amid legal disputes, Chinwo has continued to thrive. In 2025, she won Best Inspirational Single at the Headies for her song You Do This One. Her collaborations with Chioma Jesus, Moses Bliss, and Nathaniel Bassey have further elevated her status.

Prinx Emmanuel

Prince Emmanuel, known professionally as Prinx Emmanuel, is a fast-rising afro-gospel singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Abia State. He was raised in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and began his musical journey as a church drummer. After losing his father at age 10, he immersed himself in music, eventually evolving into a skilled producer and performer.

His debut single Brother Nwachukwu (2016) introduced his signature "street-church" style—a mix of Afrobeats, gospel, and pidgin English.

He gained global attention in 2022 with Kumama Papa featuring Grace Lokwa and Moses Bliss. With collaborative hits alongside Limoblaze (Ifunanya), Greatman Takit, Victor Thompson, and Kola Boy, Prinx has become a prominent figure in Afro-gospel.

He headlined London’s Reverb concert in March 2025 and performed at The Experience in Lagos. His accolades include the 2022 Galaxy Music Award for Best Gospel Song and the 2025 Gospel Artist of the Year award.

Theophilus Sunday

A prophetic worship leader from Kogi State, Theophilus Sunday is known for his spiritually charged worship sessions. A graduate of Theatre Arts from Kogi State University, he is a leading voice in the 1Spirit movement—focused on preparing the church for Christ’s return.

To him, music is more than art; it’s a divine call. “Music is just the bait to call the church into God’s burden,” he once said.

His sound, rich with Igala cultural elements, blends traditional African melodies with modern worship for a deeply immersive spiritual experience.

Ebuka Songs

Ebuka Hillary, widely known as Ebuka Songs, is a rising gospel artiste known for his prayerful chants and meditative worship.

He first made a name for himself as a campus worship leader before releasing his debut album Midnight Cry in 2021. However, it was his 2023 viral single I Will Pray that catapulted him into the spotlight.

Ebuka’s music continues to resonate with a generation seeking sincere, powerful worship experiences.
