The Lagos Waste Management Authority has removed street traders operating from unauthorised locations around Tafawa Balewa Square and the Costain Under Bridge and National Theatre axis.

The exercise formed part of the agency’s efforts to address environmental violations and prevent trading activities from obstructing road corridors and other public spaces.

LAWMA said the traders had occupied areas not approved for commercial activities, creating challenges for movement and environmental management.

The authority said the operation was carried out as part of a broader enforcement campaign to improve cleanliness and maintain order across Lagos.

The agency has repeatedly warned traders against using road corridors, walkways and other unauthorised spaces for commercial activities.

LAWMA Director of Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi, said the authority would continue to enforce environmental regulations while encouraging residents and businesses to comply with approved waste management and trading requirements.

The latest exercise also reinforces the Lagos State Government’s efforts to tackle indiscriminate trading and improve the appearance and functionality of major public spaces.

LAWMA urged residents to support efforts to keep the environment clean and avoid activities that violate existing regulations.
