The Lagos State Waste Management Authority has arrested 11 people and sealed several premises over alleged illegal waste dumping in different parts of the state.

The enforcement action was carried out as part of efforts to curb improper waste disposal and improve environmental sanitation across Lagos.

According to LAWMA, the affected individuals and premises were identified during enforcement operations targeting locations where waste was allegedly being disposed of in unauthorised areas.

The agency said illegal dumping remains a major challenge to effective waste management and can contribute to blocked drainage channels, flooding and environmental pollution.

LAWMA reiterated that residents, businesses and other waste generators are required to dispose of their waste through approved channels and comply with the state’s environmental regulations.

The agency warned that individuals and businesses found violating waste disposal regulations would face enforcement measures in line with existing laws.

It also urged residents to report cases of illegal dumping and other environmental violations to the appropriate authorities.

LAWMA said its enforcement teams would continue monitoring different parts of Lagos to ensure compliance with waste management regulations.

The agency maintained that maintaining a clean environment requires cooperation from residents, businesses and government authorities, particularly as the state continues to experience increased waste generation.
