Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has approved the appointment of Dr Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel.

The appointment was announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, following consultations with the Gumel Emirate Council, its kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs.

Lawan succeeds his father, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who died on September 3 after a 46-year reign. The new monarch’s appointment took effect immediately to ensure continuity and stability within the emirate.

Before becoming emir, Lawan served as the Chiroman Gumel during his father’s reign. He also worked as Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency.

The state government described him as a suitable successor, citing his experience, education and understanding of the traditions and affairs of the Gumel Emirate.

Governor Namadi congratulated the new emir and urged residents of Gumel to support him as he begins his reign.

The government also said it would organise a formal ceremony for the presentation of the staff of office to the new monarch at a later date.
