Resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have entered the 32nd day of their industrial action over outstanding welfare and remuneration issues.

The Association of Resident Doctors said its demands include the implementation of the Professional Allowance Table, payment of outstanding Medical Residency Training Fund and settlement of six months of minimum wage arrears.

The doctors said the strike resumed after an eight-week ultimatum issued to the Oyo State Government expired without all the demands being addressed.

They acknowledged some progress, including efforts to establish the legal framework for the Medical Residency Training Act and part payment of the residency training fund, but said other issues remained unresolved.

The association also raised concerns about the retention of skilled medical personnel, noting that LAUTECH Teaching Hospital provides specialised services in areas including orthopaedics, urology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has expressed solidarity with the LAUTECH doctors and previously warned that failure to resolve the dispute could lead to wider industrial action.

The resident doctors said they remained open to dialogue with the government and other stakeholders, while urging the Oyo State Government to address the outstanding issues and improve working conditions at the hospital.
