LASWA, INTERFERRY TRAIN 50 PARTICIPANTS IN MODERN FERRY DESIGN
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), in collaboration with Interferry, has trained 50 participants in modern ferry design as part of efforts to improve water transport safety and efficiency in Lagos State.
The training programme focused on enhancing technical knowledge in ferry construction, safety standards, and sustainable water transport systems, with participants drawn from different sectors of the maritime and transportation industry.
Officials said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to modernize inland water transport and reduce reliance on road transportation, which is often affected by traffic congestion in Lagos.
According to LASWA, improving ferry design and operational standards is essential to ensuring safer waterways, increasing passenger confidence, and expanding the capacity of water transport services across the state.
The agency also noted that partnerships with international organizations like Interferry will help introduce global best practices into Nigeria’s maritime sector, particularly in safety regulation and vessel engineering.
Participants were trained on key areas including vessel stability, passenger safety systems, emergency response procedures, and environmentally friendly design principles.
Stakeholders expressed optimism that the programme will contribute to the growth of Lagos’ blue economy and encourage more investment in water transportation infrastructure.
LASWA reaffirmed its commitment to continuous training and collaboration aimed at making Lagos waterways safer, more efficient, and more accessible to commuters.
